Lots of Wii news, still no Saudi Arabia distributor

Published on March 27, 2009 by in Saudigamer

If you care about the Nintendo Wii, here’s some GDC 2009 news:

As we said before, Nintendo is still ignoring the Saudi Arabia market with their DS and Wii. Most of the devices sold here are gray market and have no warranty.

Make sure to check WiiPod, one of the best Arabic blogs about the Nintendo Wii! Too bad Nintendo isn’t interested in the Middle East.

If it is so, I guess, Nintendo is missing one of the big gaming market.

yeah, you can say it’s losing the race, but as far I saw it, people in Saudi are not much interested in Nintendo products, I’ve been looking at Jarir Bookstore’s brochures, catalogs etc. with a lot of Nintendo promotions, but according to analysis there is not much response. Compared to PS3, where as it has the most expensive blu-ray CDs these days but gamers buy it and they buy the CDs too… Nintendo needs too much work to get promoted in Middle East, XBox, PS etc. are already in high competition…

Actually, the Wii is more popular with non-xbox360,ps3 owners! What is called “casual gamers”.

well, may be… but I don’t see that spirit here in Riyadh atleast…no body bothers to check out anything unless it’s published in an inspiring way… trust me if you do a survey.. I’m sure 80% kids and teens don’t even know that Wii is available here…

All you have to do is see how Nintendo supports Europe to know bad it would be for us if they did have a distributer here.

Before MS were officially selling games here, the prices of original import US games were actually cheaper, which were expensive to begin with.

Actually, before Sony sold the PS2 here officially, games cost over 300SR.

fdilbar said “I’m sure 80% kids and teens don’t even know that Wii is available here…”

That’s so true! from my own experience, I have never asked anyone (in the university, relatives, friends etc) about the Wii and found out that they already know about it :(

All of my relatives and most of my friends know about it now after I told them, and some of them bought it after I “convinced” them to try it. :D

It’s really sad that Nintendo isn’t even thinking about a distributor in the Middle East, and it seems it’s not going to happen any time soon. Let’s hope that Nintendo would pass through this post someday, and then maybe they’ll think about it. :P

    Hi there,

I am wondering if someone would be able to supply some information about where the Nintendo Wii is purchased in Saudi Arabia. From research, I am guessing the gray market.

I am doing a graduate school course in the United States and my group’s product to market is the Wii in Saudi Arabia. Any information that can be provided would be great!

You can contact me at tcarbo1@luc.edu with the subject Wii Question.

    Thank you so much!
