Unblock in Saudi Arabia Successful: Vimeo

I reported earlier that Vimeo.com was blocked in Saudi Arabia. And as I was browsing around, I discovered that Vimeo.com is unblocked! It’s a shame that DailyMotion is now blocked in its place.

I believe that the blocking methods in Saudi Arabia are being done like this:

kitten vs. frontrow from mattcoats on Vimeo.

Why would they block Vimeo and other social/video websites? Is it because of religious issues?

    thanks.

they have a closed way of thinking… tinyurl is blocked … and apparently someone there thinks it’s because that it bypasses blocks :p

Also the archive.org wayback machine is totally blocked! Google site translation blocked too.

hahaha poor cat man!… and this saudi websites filtering system was developed by a Malaysian IT university, and it’s not 100% effective, sometimes it blocks normal informative websites too (which they say, mistakenly done) sometime it sucks, as you just said, the translation is blocked (so true), the achieves are blocked (which is insanity in this era of connections!)

Im sure the owner of that MBP has scratches all over his screen :P

There should be no filtering/blocking software anywhere in the first place. Pornography can be easily accessible all over the web, what about emails? anyone can send a pornographic video/or pictures as attachments.

(i hope they wont take your blog down bro, because of talking of porn)

    peace

A friend of mine got caught at the airport in KSA cause he had some porn on his external HDD. They stopped him and he paid 500 riyals. He went for an internship, the company doesn’t want him anymore and now everything is fucked up with him, he is going back to Lebanon.

I lived in KSA for 2 years. Bypassing their blocks is really easy, just use a VPN service or a proxy. I used http://www.highspeedvpn.com/ and it worked every time.
