We need to have it unblocked as soon as possible, email CITC: unblock@internet.gov.sa. Faxing is also good: +966 (1) 2639290 . And fill this unblock request form.

Feedburner down for STC Afaq DSL subscribers

Feedburner, one of the leading RSS feed providers is experiencing some problems with Saudi Arabia users. Almost all of the podcasts on the Internet are using feedburner’s services. But now when you try to load a feed you will get the following error “Http/1.1 Service Unavailable”. This error usually happens when a server is down.

I have verified that the feeds are working on a Mobily connection so this problem is specific to STC Afaq DSL shamel. STC’s telephone support have no idea what I am talking about as well.

It should be noted that although Saudi Arabia have multiple DSL providers all of them go through STC’s landline and you still need to pay STC a subscription fee in addition to what you pay to the ISP.

Update: I have just verified from a friend living in the eastern province of Saudi Arabia who is also an STC subscriber that he is getting the same error “Http/1.1 Service Unavailable”!
Update 2: although this problem happens with STC customers (DSL and Jawalnet) reconnecting (changing your IP address) fixes it. Apparently one of the STC servers is messed up, not all of them.

Blocked in Saudi Arabia: Google video search

This is not a total block but depending on your search query then google video search is blocked. A regular google video string is usually:

video.google.com/videosearch?hl=en&q=searchterm

Which is blocked! But moving the “hl=en” argument:

video.google.com/videosearch?q=searchterm&hl=en

Opens the result. This is most likely a blocking mistake and needs to be corrected (by unblocking of course).

Help unblock it by filling the form at internet.gov.sa, writing an email to unblock@internet.gov.sa or sending a fax to +966(1)2639290.

Riyadh Exhibition’s site down before Gitex Saudi Arabia 2009?

This does not look good, Riyadh Exhibition Co’s website is giving the following error:

ADODB.Recordset error ‘800a0bcd’ Either BOF or EOF is True, or the current record has been deleted. Requested operation requires a current record. /recweb/main.asp, line 39

And just one month before Gitex Saudi Arabia 2009 which will be held in Riyadh between April 19th to April 23rd 2009. This will be the first Gitex Saudi Arabia in the new Riyadh Exhibition building which is roughly double the size of the older building. Here is a map of the new Riyadh Exhibition building.

We will talk more about Gitex Riyadh 2009 in a few more days. Hopefully it won’t be as disappointing as last year’s.

STC’s m3com service unstable?

What is the deal with STC‘s m3com service? No English support, annoying interface, lots of soccer/football crap. And what’s worse: their site fails to load many times. Here’s an example:

wwwm3comcomsa-empty

Empty html and body tags, nothing more. Hope STC fix their websites soon!

Cut cables disrupts Internet connection in Saudi Arabia and other countries

I am sure you are already experiencing a slow connection to the Internet. That’s because an Internet cable in the sea was cut, again. Saudi Arabia, India, Singapore, Malaysia, Egypt, Taiwan and Pakistan are effected by it the most and it will probably take until December 31st to be fixed.

Read more about it at Bloomberg, AFP, BBC and The Associated Press.
